The Pilates Method of Exercise
Developed by Joseph Pilates in the 1920’s, the Pilates Method is a
series of therapeutic exercises designed to strengthen, stretch and balance
the entire body. The exercises focus on a specific breathing technique,
proper spinal alignment, and precise, flowing movements. Mr. Pilates’
approach was to begin by strengthening the “Powerhouse”, the
abdominal muscles, hips, low back, and buttock muscles, as it is the foundation
for all movement.
Pilates can be tailored to meet your specific needs and fitness goals, from improving athletic performance and toning to rehabilitation and pain management. Pilates exercises can be modified so practically anyone, regardless of fitness level, can truly benefit. As each level is mastered, participants progress from beginner to intermediate and finally advanced, achieving impressive results along the way.
